Job Description

Center Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position manages and directs overall operations of Lynden Community/Senior Center (LC/SC).  It is responsible for the development, implementation and facilitation of programs and activities that enhance healthy aging and promote the interests, education and needs of older adults.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Represents the center by maintaining a professional approach & demeanor in all activities.

  • Oversees and manages a senior nutrition program providing hot meals at an affordable cost, served in a congregate setting, home deliveries or pick-up.

  • In conjunction with committees and volunteers, plans and assists with fund raising events to support various center programs.  Researches and pursues a variety of other funding and fund development opportunities.  

  • Is responsible for directing and/or producing a variety of promotional and outreach actions and publications, including conventional web site and social media, and other means of publicity.

  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals and groups in clear, concise language appropriate for the purpose and parties addressed, including facilitating groups and preparing and making public presentations.

  • Recruits and hires new employees with board approval.

  • Oversees orientation and training for staff.

  • Ex-officio member of all committees.

  • Oversees production of monthly newsletter.

  • Strong networking, organizational development, and facilitation skills and experience required.

  • Assists in developing recommendations for short and long-range plans, goals and objectives.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals and groups in clear, concise language appropriate for the purpose and parties addressed, including facilitating groups and preparing and making public presentations.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Maintain confidentiality of information.

  • Able to supervise others in a respectful manner.

  • Require the ability to maintain productive work relationships with others.  Knowledge of and ability to interface with community resources as necessary.

  • Must have a valid WA State driver’s license at time of hire and throughout employment.

  • Excellent skills in written, oral and interpersonal communication with individuals from a variety of occupational, educational and cultural backgrounds.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Submit to a state and federal background check.

  • Become qualified in basic first aid and CPR.

  • Previous non-profit experience desirable.

  • Obtain a WA state Food Handlers permit.

REPORTING & SUPERVISIONS:

  • Report directly to the LC/SC Board of Directors.

  • Supervise all paid staff, currently 4 full time and 2 part time.

SALARY/WAGE:

  • Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Essential job duties of the LC/SC Manager

 

  • Works with the Executive Committee on evaluation and corrective actions with current personnel, and in the selection of new employees.

  • Participates with the Executive Committee and bookkeeper in the planning and development of center budgets and staffing levels.

  • Interprets and applies agreements, contracts, grants and personnel policies.  Keeps records, overseeing and/or completing administrative documentation as required.

  • Produces and/or delegates and oversees the output of the monthly newsletter, website, Facebook page, brochures, flyers, public service announcements, and other promotional resources.

  • Promotes center use and membership, fosters and maintains recognition of and interest in senior and community services, and solicits community participation in and support for LC/SC activities and programs.

  • Maintains and monitors the condition of the center to ensure proper maintenance and safe, sanitary conditions.

  • Initiates or assists in the preparation of correspondence, reports or other documents, keeping others adequately informed.  Assures that appropriate  policies, procedures, and tasks are created and updated.

  • Reads, understands, interprets, analyzes, and appropriately applies instructions, policies, procedures, legal requirements, and regulations.   Applies regulations equitably and take appropriate action to correct non-conforming practices.

  •  Responds to or supervises the resolution of inquiries, complaints, emergencies or requests for information from members or the public in a courteous manner, providing information with scope of knowledge and authority.

  • Represents the center as spokesperson at public meetings and with other organizations, businesses and local government, when appropriate.

  • Maintain current knowledge for assigned tasks and adapts to new technologies, keeping personal and team technical skills up-to-date, using technology to increase productivity. 

  • Perform monthly staff meetings with a safety component.

  • Perform yearly job evaluations for all staff.

  • Performs other duties as needed.
